Crystals
A Brief History
The use of crystals for healing on many levels began long
before what is called the New Age. When you hold a crystal or meditate with
them, place them in special areas of your home, practise crystal healing or
wear crystal jewellery, you continue practices which are as old as humankind. A
prehistoric example is Newgrange, an ancient passage grave in the Boyne Valley
of Ireland, which is older then the pyramids. It was built so that the sun
would stream through the 70ft long entrance on the Winter Solstice – its roof
was originally covered with white quartz – to symbolise the White Goddess.
History records the use of crystals as both functional
and ornamental. The Gods of ancient myth wore them in their breastplates.
Priests of many societies and brotherhoods, as keepers and preservers of lost
prehistoric wisdom, often wore bejewelled amulets and plates, which acted as
‘oracles’ and ‘voice pieces’ from which advice was obtained.
The Atlanteans used crystals for healing – communication
– weather control – as record keepers – among other things. Tibetans used them
to produce light and the Mayan’s used crystals in their statues.
When we examine
what modern research is uncovering regarding the full spectrum of the
properties of crystals, and compare this with the ancient knowledge, we
discover we are touching upon only the very beginnings of a vast forgotten
technology.
Quartz was traditionally revered in the Far East, especially in carved form. Quartz crystal balls
were considered to represent the heart and essence of a dragon. The stone most
associated with China
though is jade. Many kinds of amulets are carved from this stone, including for
friendship and for romantic love.
Crystals were widely used
in ancient Egypt
– a hieroglyphic papyrus from the year 2000BC documents a medical cure using a
crystal. Lapis was considered to be a royal stone and it was often ground and
rubbed into the crown of the head with the belief being this would draw out
spiritual impurities as it dried. Many stones were found in tombs, including
carnelian, turquoise and tiger’s eye. These were often shaped into amulets,
shields, the shape of a heart, the Eye of Horus and scarabs.
Native American
settlers used crystals widely for spiritual, ceremonial and healing purposes.
The ancient Mexicans made mirrors out of pyrite and the Mayans used it for
ceremonial knives. The Mayans also used quartz for both the diagnosis and
treatment of disease.
Ancient Indian
culture is a rich source of information crystals. The system of chakras, which
helps us to know where to place crystals on the body for healing and meditation
originated there.
Your Treatment
Crystals each have their own properties, assisting in the rebalance of the body’s energy system (chakras). The crystal’s piezoelectric charge is thought to interact with the magnetic/electrical field around the body.
In Sanskrit chakra means 'wheel', and those who can see them describe
chakras as spinning wheels of light. They are
found in the aura, an electromagnetic force field which surrounds every
living being. The energy of the aura is that of
our thoughts and feelings, and the chakras concentrate and coordinate the
flow of these energies in and from the
physical body.
We who use healing modalities based on subtle energy (colour,
crystals, reiki) believe that illness first
manifests in the realm of thought and feelings. If the mind and emotions continue to create resistance the blockage will
eventually assume physical proportions,
lodging in whichever physical area is most vulnerable.
The purpose of chakra balancing is to dissolve blockages before they
become physical . Crystals, being symmetrical in their
molecular structure, radiate energy in a
consistent and steady manner. When they're used in chakra balancing they can
help to reestablish a healing, creative
flow.

The crystals are placed on around the body and
will then work with the resonance and vibration of the chakra to highlight and correct any imbalances. Any changes that have occurred within the
energy system will be explained after your treatment. Afterwards you are advised to rest and avoid stressful environments if possible.
Crystal therapy can also be incorporated into other treatments such as massage or Reiki.

Crystals at
their simplest functional level, can store light and discharge it, or convert
sunlight directly into electricity. A step beyond, the crystalline form can
also store information in vast quantities. A cut sliver of crystal can pick up
a specified vibratory pattern; the sliver can then be ‘frozen’ and subsequently
‘unfrozen’ later to playback the pattern………..
